Back up your calendar as a .vale file (keeps every detail, can be password-encrypted), or move events to and from other apps using the standard .ics format.
Pick a .vale backup or a .ics file from another calendar. Events are added to your current calendar. A .vale restores each event's own sharing; .ics events come in as private (you can share them after).
Back up this calendar as a .vale file. It keeps every detail (colours, circles, reminders, repeats) and is encrypted with a password you set — you'll enter that same password if you ever import these events back into ValeCalendar. A .vale file is never picked up by Apple or Google Calendar — restore it here under "Bring events in".
Moving to another calendar app instead? Export a standard .ics (inside a .zip). Note: opening that .ics later lets you add the events to Apple/Google Calendar, where they're stored unencrypted.
These terms are the agreement between you and DotVale ("the operator", "we"), who runs ValeCalendar ("the app"). By creating an account or using the app, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the app. For anything here, contact Contactdotvale@gmail.com.
You must be at least 16, or have the involvement of a parent or guardian if you're younger. You're responsible for keeping your login details accurate and for any activity under your account.
Keep your password and recovery code safe. Because your content is end-to-end encrypted, the keys to read it are derived from your password and recovery code, and the operator never holds them. This means that if you lose both your password and your recovery code, your private content cannot be recovered by anyone — there is no backdoor. This is a deliberate part of the app's privacy design, not a fault.
The app is a shared calendar. You agree not to use it to:
• break the law, or help anyone else do so;
• post, store or share content you don't have the right to, or that infringes someone else's rights;
• harass, threaten, abuse, defame or impersonate anyone;
• share content that is violent, hateful, sexual involving minors, or otherwise seriously objectionable;
• send spam or unsolicited bulk messages to other users;
• attempt to break, overload, reverse-engineer, or gain unauthorised access to the app or its systems;
• use the app to harm others or to do anything the operator reasonably considers seriously inappropriate.
When you share a calendar or join a group, other members see every event you share with that group — an event with no circles stays private to you. You're responsible for what you choose to share. The owner of a group can manage that group — including setting who may edit or delete events, editing or removing events themselves, and removing members.
Your content stays yours. Because it's end-to-end encrypted, the operator cannot read, moderate, recover or restore it, and does not claim any right to use it. You are solely responsible for the content you create and share.
If someone is misusing the app or another member is behaving abusively, report it to Contactdotvale@gmail.com. Because content is encrypted, the operator generally cannot see it, but can act at the account level: we may suspend or delete an account, or remove someone from a shared group, where we reasonably believe these terms have been broken. We aren't obliged to monitor content and don't pre-screen it.
The app is provided on a best-effort basis and we don't guarantee that data will never be lost. Please keep your own backups — you can export your calendar at any time (Settings → Import / Export) and download a copy of your data (Settings → My Account). Given the end-to-end encryption, lost keys mean lost data, so backups are your responsibility.
The app is an evolving, independently-run project. We may change, add, remove or suspend features, and we may suspend or discontinue the whole service, with reasonable notice where we can give it. If the service is discontinued, any paid access ends with it (see Payments).
The app is currently free. If paid features or subscriptions are introduced, the specific pricing, billing, trial, renewal, cancellation and refund terms will be shown to you at that time and form part of these terms. "Lifetime" or one-time purchases, if offered, last for as long as the app remains available, not indefinitely.
The app is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no warranties that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or fit for a particular purpose.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for loss of data, arising from your use of (or inability to use) the app. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited by law — for example liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. If you're using the app as a consumer, these terms do not affect your statutory rights.
You can stop using the app at any time and delete your account (Settings → My Account → Delete Account), which erases your personal data immediately (events you created in a shared group stay with that group — see the Privacy Policy). We may suspend or end your access if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms.
We also delete data automatically over time: events more than 10 years in the past, and accounts that have had no activity for 12 months (together with their private events and personal data; events they created in shared groups stay with the group). Details are in the Privacy Policy under "How long it's kept".
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction, without affecting any mandatory consumer-protection rights you have where you live.
If these terms change, the version and date above will be updated, and you may be asked to agree again. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated terms.

ValeCalendar is a private calendar you share only with the family or group members you choose. This page explains what information the app holds, how it's protected, and the choices you have. It's run by DotVale, the app's creators. For any question or request about your data, contact Contactdotvale@gmail.com.
To give you an account and sync your calendar across devices, the app stores: your email address, your display name, and (optionally) your country/time-zone. It stores your calendar events and tasks, the connections to any friends you add, and — if you turn it on — your cycle-tracking entries. If you enable notifications, it stores the technical details your device needs to receive them.
Your name, your event titles, notes and locations, and all cycle-tracking data, are encrypted on your own device before they're saved. They are stored only as unreadable ciphertext. DotVale cannot read them, the hosting provider cannot read them, and nobody without your key can read them. The encryption keys are derived from your password and recovery code, which the app never sees in readable form. Some basic fields needed to draw the calendar (such as dates, times and colours) are not encrypted.
Data is stored using Supabase, hosted in the United Kingdom (AWS London region). The app itself is served as static files from GitHub Pages. Because your content is end-to-end encrypted, these providers only ever hold ciphertext for your private fields.
The legal basis is your consent, which you give when you create an account. You can withdraw it at any time by deleting your account (see below).
Your events are visible only to members of a family or group you share them with — an event with no circles is private to you alone. The app shows no ads, contains no third-party tracking or analytics, and your data is never sold or shared with anyone else. The two service providers above (Supabase and GitHub) process data only to run the app.
Your data is kept for as long as your account is in use. When you delete your account, your profile, private events, cycle data, encryption keys and notification details are erased immediately and permanently. Events you created in a shared group calendar are the group’s shared record: they stay with the group, re-attributed to the group’s owner and no longer linked to you by name. Groups where you were the only member are deleted entirely.
We also apply automatic retention limits:
• Old events are deleted automatically once they are more than 10 years in the past.
• Inactive accounts are deleted automatically after 12 months with no activity, along with all their data. (Group membership history is kept so the group keeps an accurate record — unless the group itself is dissolved. In newer entries the names in this history are encrypted; older entries store them as plain text.)
You can, at any time, from Settings → My Account:
• Access & export your data — "Download My Data" gives you a copy of everything held about you.
• Correct your information — edit your profile and events directly.
• Erase everything — "Delete Account" removes it all immediately.
• Withdraw consent — by deleting your account.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.
Can’t log in? If you still have access to your email, you can reset your password from the Log In screen and then delete your account from Settings → My Account. Because the app is end-to-end encrypted, an account with no remaining access can’t be unlocked by anyone — it is automatically deleted after 12 months of inactivity. You can also email Contactdotvale@gmail.com with any questions.
The app uses only the essential on-device storage needed to keep you logged in and to work offline. It sets no advertising or tracking cookies.
The app isn't directed at children under 16. If a child uses it, that should be with a parent or guardian's involvement.
If this policy changes, the version and date at the top will be updated, and you may be asked to agree again.
